How do I rewrite a GCF? Equation: 2x3y + 18xy - 10x2y - 90y

@satellite73 @iPwnBunnies @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what values do the terms have in common? ... if we know, then we can undistribute them.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

might help to use exponent notation as well, or repetition of a variable is useful. 2 xxx y 18 x y -10 xx y -90 y ---------- well they have a y in common the numbers are all even so they have at best a 2 in common

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh because they all are variables of 2?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

variables of 2 .... dunno what what means. variables are letters, and the only letter they have in common is a single y the number parts, the are all multiples of 2 (even numbers) so they all have a 2 in common.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2 xxx y 18 x y -10 xx y -90 y ---------- 2 y ............................... factoring out their biggest common factor we get: 1 xxx 9 x - 5 xx -45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant multiples not variables. sorry
