OpenStudy (anonymous):

Suppose a fungus destroys the central xylem and phloem tissues in the roots of a tree. What function of the root system will be lost because of this damage? The roots will no longer be able to provide structural support. The roots will not be able to transport minerals and water. The roots will not be protected from water loss to the surroundings. The roots will no longer be able to store glucose and water.

OpenStudy (cherry17ann):

The roots will not be able to transport minerals and water. Is what I think!

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Xylem, in the most blunt way of describing it, is wood, the bark of a tree, and within the roots, its job it to transport minerals. Pholem tissues is found within the bark that transports sap. I agree with @cherry17ann answer, the roots will not be able to transport needed nutrition.
