Need help calculus lost like a goose.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

whats the isuue?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

notice that: (1.5+.5) = 2 = (2.3-.5) so our epsilon is already set for us. we just need to be safe and use the shorter distance of the x parts.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Ok, what would that be?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

look at the picture you posted, what is the shorter distance from x=3 to delta?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

2?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2.6 to 3 is .4 3 to 3.8 is .8 if we center about 3, we are safest with delta = .4 since that keeps us within the range of f(x+- delta)

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Thanks. This stuff baffles me.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre trying to stay within you y boundary your y boundary is centered about y=2, but your the x=3 is not centered within the x boundary. we want some safe value for 3 +- delta that keeps us in the y boundary.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3 +- .4 keeps us within 2+- .5 whereas 3 +- .8 does not
