solve for x, and y (wait for pic)
|dw:1402688587471:dw|
these are 30-60-90 triangles btw
a, b = ????isnt it given
no it's not given @rishavraj
It's just comparing the 30-60-90 ratio. Since y is the long side and a is the short side, y would equal a/sqrt3 since the short side is defined by x*sqrt3. Reversing that would give you x/sqrt3. Since the variable is a, you write it as a/sqrt3. That's for y.
i think tan 60 = y/a, tan 30 = z/b etc works here
sorry its tan 30 = y/b
Sorry, I had that wrong. We were given the short side which was a. The long side is a times sqrt 3. So y = sqrt 3
@5occ3r after getting y...apply sin 60 = y/x
x would equal twice the amount of the short side, so 2a.
I am so lost....too many people trying to help at once
well saying different things
@5occ3r am i supposed to tell the answer??
not really, it's just I don't get what you two are saying
You're doing trigonometry, but how far are you in it? Are you just dealing with ratios in your class or are you doing trig functions like sine, cosine, tangent etc? That will help clarify what sort of response you need.
look at the fig... tan 60 = y/a...u get y in terms of a...now its sin 60 = y/x
@seehearcreate this is in my geometry class
@5occ3r message me the answers....
@rishavraj It's not multiple choice
Right, geometry is composed of trig as well. Tell me what you're doing in your class right now, are you just working with special triangles or are you doing sin, cosine, tangent, cotangent, cosecant, etc.
Sin, Cos, Tan @seehearcreate
@5occ3r then be 100% sure mine process is absolutely correct...u might get the values in terms of "a" or "b"..whatever u want
Oh okay. Let's find y first. We're going to use the 60 angle and use tangent because we want y. So set up tan(60)= y/a (opposite/ adjacent)
To find x, since this is a 60, 30 90 triangle, we can assume the other angle in that small triangle is 30. SO. We're going to to use opposite/ hypotenuse, which is sine. So, sin(30) = a/y
Do you need to find Z? That requires using the WHOLE triangle.
no we don't need Z
@seehearcreate sin(30) = a/y ???
Sorry no, sin(30) = a/x. my b.
