one can conclude that Nast had a well-developed sense of right and wrong and was probably strong enough to reseist bribes and other attempts by Tweed to get him to ease up on his campaign. He was probably courageous because he could not have been sure to what extremes Tweed might have gone to stop Nast's attack.
