@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ms. McCarroll drew this scatterplot on the board. Which graph most accurately represents the line of best fit for Ms. McCarroll’s scatterplot? B

hero (hero):

I'd pick the one with the fewest possible outliers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was stuck between B and D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think @ganeshie8

hero (hero):

Between B and D, one of them has more outliers.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are outliers the dots that are DIRECTLY on the line? Not beside it?

hero (hero):

Furthermore, one of them has more points touching the line.

hero (hero):

How many points are touching the line in option B? How many touching in option D?

hero (hero):

I should say "intersecting" rather than "touching"

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

knowing what the line of best fit is, you should be able to....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D as the one with the most dots directly on

hero (hero):

How so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I had to answer the phone downstairs. :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They're directly on it not even a little bit beside it. The one with the closest dots is B.

hero (hero):

It helps to actually count the dots that intersect the line rather than trying to eyeball it. If a dot touches the line, then that counts as intersecting.

hero (hero):

So what is your final answer... B or D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If we're looking for the ones with the most dots toughing the line then B, my original answer.

hero (hero):

I just noticed you chose B originally. Maybe next time when you post the answer choices, include something like "I chose option B as my answer". If you write just "B" alone, I won't know what that means by itself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, ok! Thanks! :)
