what is the solution set for |x-2|-1 > 2

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm |x-2|-1 > 2 }\) add 1 to both sides \(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm |x-2|> 3 }\) and then you get, \(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm x-2> 3 }\) or \(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm x-2<-3 }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

can you finish the problem ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x > 5 , x < 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure if its right or not... I'm not the best at math @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry not 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you got \(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm x>5 }\) right and the second, as you corrected yourself, \(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm x<-1 }\) Good job !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So the answer would be \(\normalsize\color{darkgreen}{ \rm -1>x~~~~~and~~~~~x<5 }\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yw :)
