I have to explain social inequality, which is a cause of the French Revolution, I just don't know how to sum it up in 2 - 3 sentences. Can someone help me?

Social inequality was a prominent feature in the old French government before the revolution. It almost operated like a caste system, yet not quite. There was three estates: the first, second and third. Clergymen and royalty belonged to the first estate, aristocrats to the second estate and peasantry, artisans, merchants etc. to the third estate. The first and second estates were exempt from the taille, the French land tax. There were also many other taxes the first two estates were exempt from where the third had to pay, such as group taxes. The French people were willing to give up their political rights in order to gain social equality, that is why "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite" was the slogan during the revolution. Sorry, that was more than 2-3 sentences haha.

yeah, i have that problem. i know what to say, i just can't minimize my words into a short enough summary

Will you be marked down if it is more than a few sentences?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

Then just go with that. If I was a teacher, I would want to see more from a student. It examples how well they pay attention and how extensive they can be in a response.

that's true its for my online class anyways though
