Gino designed a garden for his rectangular backyard. The design he drew on paper is ten inches long. The length of his backyard is forty feet. If his drawing is to scale, and his backyard is twenty-eight feet wide, how many inches wide is his drawing? Write a proportion using words. Then, use the proportion to calculate the drawing width. If he is drawing his back yard to scale in inches on paper and the length on paper is 10 in., and the length of his actual yard is 40 ft., then you divide 10 by 40 and get 4. If the width of the yard is 20 ft. you divide 20 by 4 and you would get 5 in.
