Please help!!! Parabola passes through (5,2), has a vertical axis, and has a maximum at (4,3). Write the equation.

@dan815

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Standard form for parabola is (x-h)^2=4p(y-k)

@Hero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the maximum is still a point on the line im thinking can i use it as an x,y coordinate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Guess what is this maximum point !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it the vertex? h,k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes so now you need to fin p only.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*find

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given point should satisfy that equation. Find p from there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok im not too sure about finding p...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have (x-4)^2=4p(y-3) so p is -1 right? because if i plug in the (5,2) i get 1=-1p divide by -1 to both sides i get -1

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay! thanks!
