If the diameter of a circle has endpoints M(2,4) and N(9,4). Where is the center of the circle, and what is the equation for the circle?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Eyeball Problem. You are given the endpoints of a diameter. Pick the middle of the segment. Since the y-value doesn't change, that's (What,4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get what ur asking

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I'm not asking anything. Now I will. Do you know what a diameter is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea of course

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Where are the endpoints of a diameter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at the edge of the circle

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Right. The endpoints are ON the circle. Where is the midpoint of the diameter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The center of the circle

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Okay, given the coordinates of the endpoints, can you find the midpoint?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes(i got 6,4) for the midpoint

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I had hoped that you would get the correct (11/2,4). Did you round to integers? That will not do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got 5.5 before

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Center of the Circle: (5.5,4) Radius of Circle: ??
