Hello everybody! I have a few questions that I know how to do most of them and I was wondering if someone could check them? If I got it wrong then can you please explain how to do it right? Thanks! Oh, and look at the image along with the questions. Which type of triangle is RST? Scalene Isosceles Equilateral Right I think that it is Isosceles. Write the equation of the line that contains the median of RST from S to RT. x + 2y = -10 x + 2y = 10 x + 2y = 8 x + 2y = 6 I can't figure out this one. Help!

OpenStudy (beccab003):

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

for the first one ur correct its Isosceles.

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

can u find the median of RST from S to RT. ?

OpenStudy (phi):

For the 2nd, find the average of the points R and T

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Thanks! And what about the second? I don't how to find the median.

OpenStudy (phi):

the find the equation of the line from S to that midpoint. one way is find the slope between the two points then use the value of point S in the equation y = mx + b to solve for b

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

OpenStudy (phi):

to find the "average" between R and T, find the average x value and the average y value i.e. add up the x values and then divide by 2 add up the y values then divide by 2

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Okay then the average is (2,4). But then how do you find the median? That is what i don't get.

OpenStudy (phi):

(2,4) is the mid point to RT the equation of the median is the equation of the line from (-4,7) to (2,4) can you find the equation of a line given 2 points? (see above)

OpenStudy (beccab003):

So I find m from the points (-4,7) and (2,4)?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, find the slope between those points.

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Would I get the same result if I did it from R (0,1)?

OpenStudy (phi):

no. You want the slope of the line from S to (2,4) point R is not on that line. (you would be finding the slope of a different line... not the median)

OpenStudy (phi):

|dw:1403122939238:dw|

OpenStudy (beccab003):

okay so I did the problem and I came up with: x+2y=10

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Is that right?

OpenStudy (phi):

you can check by subbing in the points and see that they work. example: (-4,7): -4 + 2*7 = 10 ? yes: -4+14 is 10 and 10= 10 so the equation works for that point. btw, you could have done this problem a different way: test each choice and see if both points (-4,7) and (2,4) work. Only one of the choices will work

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Thanks! I have one more question that relates to this diagram and I was wondering if you could help check to see if I got the answer right? Thanks so much!!!

OpenStudy (beccab003):

If RST is reflected through the x-axis, which of the following will be the new coordinates for point T? (4, -7) (-4, -7) (7, 4) (-4, 7) I think it is (4, -7)
