A system of equations is shown below. 3x + 8y = 12 2x + 2y = 3 Part A: Create an equivalent system of equations by replacing one equation with the sum of that equation and a multiple of the other. Show the steps to do this. (6 points) Part B: Show that the equivalent system has the same solution as the original system of equations. (4 points)

flvs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mod 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dpaInc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iambatman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@vzfreakz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

vzfreak help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The dog is thinking..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So we have to do an elimination method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\left(\begin{matrix}-2 \\ 3\end{matrix}\right) * \left(\begin{matrix}3x(-2)+8y(-2)\\ \end{matrix}=12\right)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then underneath that equation 2x(3)+2y(3) = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, I did not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't tell me you searched it up. If you did then I shouldn't help you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why -2 and 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didnt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Be honest.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im serious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, lets start over.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6x + 14y = -32 -9x + 5y = 16 == -15x + 19y -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did u get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because we are replacing an equation of the sum of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty Please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're making this harder than I thought. We replace (2) by adding (2) to two time (1): -6x + 14y = -32 <-- 2 times (1) -9x + 5y = 16 <-- Add (2) = -15x + 19y -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok you are a big help but just bare with me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(−23)∗(3x(−2)+8y(−2)=12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why were u doing that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your answer will be y = 1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok u help me with another in about 10 or 15 min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll try but don't forget the medal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about part 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or i mean part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6x-16y=-24 6x+6y9 -10y=-15 ---------- -10 y=1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x+6y=9**

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got that for part a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i just have to check it for part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve (1) and (2) for x,y Solve (1) and (2) for x,y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@marissalovescats does x=0 vzfreakz refered me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just need to know does x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x can represent anything number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but in this situation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it = 0

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

Yes x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

You're welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now i have one more question

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

Yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i open a new fourm for the queswtion

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

Sure
