@zepdrix Can you please help me?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

With what? XD Post your question silly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Janet told Sam that she has read 10 books this year and reads 2 books each month. Sam wants to catch up to Janet. He tracks his book reading with a table on his door. Using his table below, what month will Sam have read the same amount of books as Janet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

June is 3 July is 6 August 9

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So it looks like, based on his chart, that sam is reading 3 books per month. Janet is only reading 2 books per month ( but is 10 books ahead right now ), so eventually sam will catch up.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

This is the rate at which Janet is reading, \[\Large\rm J(x)=2x+10\]Where x is the number of books each month. 2 books each month, plus 10 finished at the point where we start counting.\[\Large\rm S(x)=3x\]You can just call them J and S if the function notation is confusing. I don't know if you've been introduced to that yet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not yet

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So in 5 months, (plug in x=5) J = 20 S = 15 So he hasn't quite caught up after 5 months. To find out exactly when they have read the same amount, we just set each function equal to one another.\[\Large\rm J=2x+10\]\[\Large\rm S=3x\]so we have:\[\Large\rm 2x+10=3x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i just did that on flvs lol

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Solving for x tells us how many months it will take for them to read the same amount.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FriedRice really i did it 3 times already i got it wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got x=10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me to i couldnt get the answer i picked feburary and march and it was still wrong lol

zepdrix (zepdrix):

x=10? Ok great! He started counting in June, yah?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So hmm.. let's see...

zepdrix (zepdrix):

I would guess March.. I had to count that on my fingers though lol. This is a weird question XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FriedRice Do it with us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm the answer that was right was march

zepdrix (zepdrix):

1 June 2 July 3 August 4 September 5 October 6 November 7 December 8 January 9 February 10 March So it looks like March is the 10th month, yah?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Boy that's tricky counting D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes i got it right

zepdrix (zepdrix):

yay good job \c:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so @zepdrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FriedRice are still on module 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to do the quiz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me i'm everywhere im doing all the multiple questions first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zepdrix I know it's to much to ask for but are you only online at night so when i need help i could ask for help..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FriedRice yeppp
