OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the equation of the line that is perpendicular to -x + y = 7 and passes through (-1, -1)? -x + y = 2 -x – y = 2 x – y = 2 -x – y = 0 x + y = 0

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

Perpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes. How you find that is -1/slope And the slope you're given is -1. So the slope of the line perpendicular to it will be -1/-1 which is positive 1.

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

They gave us the point (-1,-1) and our slope of this new line that's perpendicular to the other is 1 and now we use the point slope equation to find our equation. |dw:1403199024319:dw|
