There is a rule with triangles about the length of each side. The length of any side of a triangle has to be more than the difference between the lengths of the other two sides and less then the sum of the lengths of the other two sides.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The two given sides are 26 ft and 31 ft. 1. What is the difference of their lengths? 2. What is the sum of their lengths? 3. The length of the third side is between the two answers above.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sum is 57, so it has to be less than 57..?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

31-6=5 ; so greater than 5 and less than 57 >5 and <57

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40! :D

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct.

Thank you :)
