OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

EARTHQUAKES

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks batman

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

a tsunami is an ocean wave that is not caused by a meteorological (weather) event. thus cannot be caused by a tornado

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u answer another please Which of the following would most violently change the earth? 1.Wind erosion 2.Water erosion 3. Thunderstorms 4.A volcano

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

A tsunami is usually caused by a powerful earthquake under the ocean floor. This earthquake pushes a large volume of water to the surface, creating waves. These waves are the tsunami. In the deep ocean these waves are small. As they approach the coast these waves get bigger and more dangerous. Tsunami waves can cause tremendous damage when they reach land. A tsunami can also be triggered by a volcanic eruption, landslide, or other movements of the Earth’s surface.

VOLCANO

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

its important to know the thinking behind the question, not just the answer itself

omg thanks batman

OpenStudy (kainui):

Tides are the natural movement of the sea caused by the moon's gravity. This affects the oceans, but since the moon moves slowly and predictably, it really doesn't have that sort of power otherwise we'd have moon-caused tsunamis always. Undersea earthquakes can be really powerful and create shockwaves underwater like how sound travels through air. You can't see it, but when these shockwaves get closer to land, they get compressed between the surface of the ocean and the sea floor which becomes less and less, so it makes up for this by causing a huge freakin' wave. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, and Typhoons are all just similar weather affects that affect the surface of the water and also lack the power to cause tsunamis. They can make some pretty big waves though.
