Can someone explain to me how I would go about doing this? "Express sec(arctan(x)) without trigonometric functions." I know that arctan = tan^-1, and is the inverse of tan. I know that secant= hypotenuse/adjacent, and that the secant =1/cos(x).

draw a diagram

Ooh . . . so would I draw, say, a triangle and label the appropriate sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so would something like this be on the right track?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what is sec(A) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sec(A)= √1 + x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm really sorry, but I've got to go for a bit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it's correct
