How to find standard form of equation of a line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A = (5,5) m=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay the standard from is ax+by=0 where a can not be o

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

first make your equation of the line, can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y-5 = 3 (x-5) ?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :) then distribute and get y and x to one side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got y-3x = -10

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I think that's right :) just -3x + y = -10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would that be the same for an equation with 2 sets of points instead of a point and a slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like (-2, 2) and (5,1) ?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, it should be the same idea if you're finding standard form :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thank you!!
