What Do I Submit? Now that you are familiar with the Civil Rights Movement, you will analyze and assess three of its events by creating an informative presentation. Use your chart to help you begin your work. Steps: 1. Choose three of the following events or actions to profile in a presentation: o March on Washington o Montgomery bus boycott o Watts Riots o Selma March o Children's Crusade o Formation of Black Panthers o Freedom Summer o Freedom Rides o Greensboro sit-ins 2. Summarize each event, including which of the civil rights organizations and leaders were responsible for it. 3. Explain whether each event was violent or non-violent and why. 4. Explain whether each event could be considered a success or not. Be sure to include specific details to support your claim. 5. Explain your response to the following question: Based on the outcomes of the events you chose, do you think violent or nonviolent protest strategies were more effective? 6. Organize your work into one presentation in your choice of format. Examples include a podcast, voice thread, slideshow, video, or newsletter. There are many 21st century tools available for creating and submitting these types of presentations. Which format did you choose?

OpenStudy (jumperman):

The best way to start something like this is to start with Montgomery bus boycott.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was thinking of doing a powerpoint but i have no idea how to start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks I will try it @Jumperman

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Powerpoint is good. Use some pictures to describe the events, but also include informative details.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (jumperman):

Do not use opinions in something like an informative essay. So make sure you use facts. Also I would include some writings by people like Martin Luther King Jr and Cesar Chavez on things like the boycott, or other events that happened during the Civil Rights Movement.

Thanks!

You can give ethical appeals to something like this, but be careful as you don't stray into rabbit trails that go too deep, or else you can lose the reader. Introduce the people you are writing about. For example, " During the Civil Rights Movement, many African Americans were scared of the white extremists. On a bus (during such time) had a passenger by the name of (insert name) and she was brave enough to defy the laws that separated whites from blacks. She was brave." Then continue on with what happened and tell the audience about what it helped create and where it took the movement. Does this make sense?
