Barbie is analyzing a circle, y2 + x2 = 16, and a linear function g(x). Will they intersect? Graph below

OpenStudy (imstuck):

I see j(x) =8 and then 20^x under the g(x) column. I'm confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? what @IMStuck

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ahemmm seems you got the mistaken graph for it, there's no g(x) on that one above

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Here i though I was going nuts!!

OpenStudy (imstuck):

; P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh my bad haha here @IMstuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you draw the line for g(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) is also y right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm what did yiou get for the equation of g(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would intersect in the 4 quadrant so would that be plsitive and negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean wouldn't it be they would intersect if x coordinates are positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was just looking at the drawing. If you plot the line odes it intersect the circle? That was the question correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah but the answer choices are Yes, at positive x-coordinates or zero Yes, at negative x-coordinates or zero Yes, at negative and positive x-coordinates or zero No, they will not intersect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK..then you need to determine the equation for the line and then determine where they intersect the circle.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well notice someting |dw:1403557956700:dw|

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

doesn't seem you're required to get points where they intersect though just to check if they do or not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

positive x coordinates? right

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well...the x-coordinates given are positive, yes the line does have negative ones too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well its only saying x coordinates :/ so im confused if its just positive or positive and negative

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

.... hmm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think? and I have one more too

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

the ones you were provided are just positive for "x", yes however, g(x) does have negative "x" and "y" coordinates, but for the sake of seeing if the line crosses the circle, they don't quite matter that much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then what would it be? I'm confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And sorry I was afk

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well look at the points for the line and look at the circle |dw:1403559439989:dw|
