Under the translation T(2, -3), will the point (1, 6) become (3, 9)?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

"the translation T(2, -3)" means shift every point 2 units to the right shift every point 3 units down

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

"the translation T(2, -3)" also means add 2 to every x coordinate subtract 3 from every y coordinate

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so if we start with the point (1,6) and apply that translation rule (described above), then where do we end up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That would be (3,3), right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so saying "Under the translation T(2, -3), will the point (1, 6) become (3, 9)" is half true that "9" throws it off and makes it false

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
