Hey, can we get a legit date on when the servers are going to work 100% without having crashes every so often. I've talked to many people, and this is one reason why some users lately have been avoiding to help users. I don't like to complain but since I've been here all I've heard is, working on it, etc. I understand that it's going to cost money and at the end of the day it's a business and you want to make a profit, but this is getting to be ridiculous, and makes you want to avoid the site. I've tried alternatives as in switching browsers but I get the same result...I just want to add, you are getting FREE tutors/ teachers, mods who take care of the chat and deal with many things on a daily basis for FREE, you have people taking care of social media (marketing) for the site for FREE, I can keep going on, but you get the point. Can we at least get some decent servers please, it'll cost money, but will be worth it. Thanks for reading.
Just want to point out, this is more so directed at the administrators at this site.
Also there is no June 31st ;)
Last time I talked to Preetha the time frame was to work on it over the summer, so it is not just one thing they are going to look at and presto it is fixed.
they consider getting a content distributing server? @e.mccormick idk anything about computers and that sort of stuff but little birdie told me that might help
It already is done that way.
LMAO XD @esshotwired i didn't even notice that nice one @zeta
and yes getting to the topic @iambatman i agree im just helping out so Open Study doesn't lose users but ya it would be nice to get that fixed
It'll happen when it happens. It's not like we're twirling our mustache scheming for server crashes and lag. The admins are working on a viable solution. It's just not about getting a server. A lot of stuff goes into maintaining one. You have to narrow down a company, look at costs, some or online and some are more direct (physical modems), the cost of maintaining it will involve an active webmaster, etc, etc, etc. So give them time. I'm sure once they get it up and going it'll be stable for a long time.
Ummm... "You have to narrow down a company, look at costs, some or online and some are more direct (physical modems), the cost of maintaining it will involve an active webmaster, etc, etc, etc." what? Online or more direct? Physical modems? They already use a proxy and relay to multiple servers in a cluster using a master database and local cache of recent activity on each web server. The cluster is hosted in data center with very good internet access. This has let them scale to some pretty large active user numbers, but there are other concerns. Just as an example, and I do not know if it applies here, sometimes there are problems in database design that can lead to a reduced efficiency. Minor changes in how data is stored, keyed, etc. can result in faster lookups. This also results in faster database driven websites.
@iambatman you are not eligible for the private data of Open Study. Please close the Question sir.
I agree @iambatman
