Given the polynomial 6x3 + 4x2 - 6x - 4, what is the value of the coefficient 'k' in the factored form? 6x3 + 4x2 - 6x - 4 = 2(x + k)(x - k)(3x + 2) k= ____________

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

forreal? @OOOPS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 million

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no. I am wrong. I am so sorry, let me do it carefully

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, the same, 1

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

oh ok thank you can you show me how you did it too just to know im not that good on these

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since from the right hand side, you have 2 as factor, right? divided the left hand side by 2, you get 3x^3+2x^2-6x -2 then, from the right hand side, you have (3x+2) still, divided the expression above by (3x+2) you get (x^2-1) =(x+1)(x-1) so, 1 is k

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

oh ok thank you!
