Identify which organisms are producers, herbivores, omnivores or carnivores in the food chain shown in Fig. 3-1.
Fig ?
now i wanna help with this question
so first off i think the shark, squid and small fishes are carnivores
correct
are they omnivores as well?
or are they like toads and only eat moving worms
so to speak
i also think algae are producers
so zooplankton must be herbivores
so the only question is omnivores (scavengers)
sharks seem pretty predatory to me (i live in australia) but i dunno if they dont eat dead fish too
or something
\(\bf Plankton\) is a general term for both \(\bf phytoplankton\) and \(\bf zooplankton\), which are passively floating and some weakly swimming animal-like and plant-like organisms that are moved with the currents. Phytoplankton are the plant-like division of planktonic organisms while zooplankton is more animal like
Zooplanktons consists of small protozoans or metazoans (e.g. crustaceans and other animals) that feed on other plankton and telonemia (microscopic eukaryote, single-celled organisms.)
So, Algae---->Producers Zooplankton---->Omnivores Fishes, Squid, Shark-----> Carnivores
Got it ?
and so theres no herbivores
nopes !
oh okay
so i was kinda close
yep !
well at least i am improving i guess
thanks mate

but if strictly hv to go with the diagram, then there should be no omnivores and zooplankton should be considered as herbivores only
@Somy
ummm....okayyy
@alphadxg
so why did we hypothesise that zooplankton were omnivores again?
they dont look like they'd be doing a lot of hunting

i recon' herbivores is a much better title
true that
@Abhisar what is it?
Is zooplankton a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore ? @Somy
some are carnivores some are herbivores
This means they are omnivores ! ryt ?
but in this picture they are herbivores
nope, u need to consider the food chain
yeah, that's why i am thinking the answer here should be herbivores
I searched and found that some are herbivores, some carnivores & some omnivores http://www.kgbanswers.com/are-zooplankton-omnivores-carnivores-or-herbivores/4679989
it's not showing any kind of arrow from zooplankton to some other animal in this food chain we see it only feeding on producers
Yeah that's ryt @Somy ! So lets say that here zooplanktons are herbivores and no one is omnivores
thats right
what about: Algae---->Producers Zooplankton---->Herbivores Fishes ------------> Omnivores and Carnivores Squid, Shark-----> Carnivores
Thanx @Somy !
How fishes omnivores ? again here is no such arrow !
Fishes ------------> Carnivores only
yeah she is correct !
Algae---->Producers Zooplankton---->Herbivores Fishes, Squid, Shark-----> Carnivores
Here u go !
oh boy that was fun
yes that's right there are no omnivores in this food chain
well thanks heaps everyone for the effort
and researching and debating and everything

its means a lot @Somy @Abhisar
you are welcome ♥
