PLEASE HELP ME!! Find the perimeter of the image below: Figure QRSTU is shown. Q is at 2, 0. R is at 4, 5. S is at 8, 7. T is at 6, 4. U is at 10, 3. Answers: 25.8 units 26.1units 27.5 units 28.6 units
is it a trapezoid or trapezium?
can someone please help me
Break it up into 2 triangles and find the perimeters of each by using the co-ordinates to find the length of the sides.
i think its 25.8
so would it be triangle rst, and triangle qtu
\[P_{\triangle}= A+B+C\] Each letter represents a side Add up the perimeter of both triangles to find the perimeter of your original shape.
but they're coordinate points
Triangle RST yes, but not QTU because that leaves an empty spot you are not accounting for so, Instead you want to use triangle RST and RUQ
You will need to use the coordinates to find each corresponding distance.
@izzyvelazco i formed a right triangle on all the sides of the figure, and by using the data of the coordinated i got the legth of every line.. i use on ly phytagorean theorem..
but how would you add a+b+c if they're coordinates
You need to find the sides first using the co-ordinates.
Distance between 2 points formula.
anyway use the distance formula like @Johnbc said, i think its the best way to explain my approach...
\[d = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2}\]
im still confused on this hah, you didn't help me at all.
What are you confused about? Find the distances of each side of the figure using 2 points and the distance formula and that will get you the value of each side. Break up the figure into simpler pieces, like triangles for example, and then use the formula for the perimeter of a triangle, or whichever other figure you decided to break your original figure into, and then add them up and you will find the perimeter.
We can not help if we are unaware of what you need help on.
how do you get the co coordinates
They are given in your question in the form (X,Y). Each letter above has a corresponding co ordinate.
im confused forget it
For example, You are given Q is at 2,0. That is (2,0) in the form (x,y).
Looking at your diagram you can either find side QR or side QU Using the distance formula which gives you the distance between 2 points and the distance between those 2 points would be the value of the length of that side.
If you decide to break up the figure into a piece then Triangle QRT could be a possibility and then you would also be able to find side QT
