I have noticed an increase in the use of the word "May" when someone is asking someone else to do something for them. For example, "May you bring me a blanket?" Is this grammatically correct, or is it a misuse of the word "May?" An explanation of why it is becoming popular would also be helpful.

it is proper English and i believe it is becoming popular because of how teachers now say "you can go to the bathroom but may you?" and it in my opinion just sounds more dignified unlike "can i do this" proper English is the way to go! (:

@aodnoah706 Do you have any references or sources to support that it is proper grammar?

@aodnoah706 Do you know where I could find something to reference in a paper. If I use your teachers I need their contact information, which I don't think would be a good idea.
