OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

Which function below is the inverse of f(x) = The quantity of two x plus three, over five.? f−1(x) = The quantity of five x plus three, over two f−1(x) = The quantity of five x minus three, over two f−1(x) = Five over the quantity of two x plus three f−1(x) = Five over the quantity of three minus two x

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\(y=\frac{2x+3}{5}\) can you solve this for \(x\)?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

5-3/2x?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I dont know what that is....use parentheses

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

but it does not look right

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

y=(5-3)/(2x)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\(y=\frac{2x+3}{5}\) multiply both sides by \(5\) \(5y=2x+3\) subtract 3 \(5y-3=2x\) divide by 2 \(\frac{5y-3}{2}=x\)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

now "flip" the \(x\) and \(y\). \(f^{-1}(x)=y=\frac{5x-3}{2}\)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Some people like to "flip" the \(x\) and \(y\) first, then solve for \(y\). But its all the same thing...

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

so i just solve for x and then flip the x and y ?
