Can someone please explain to me how to go about solving this? Lincoln and Gemma are looking at the equation the square root of the quantity of 2 times x minus 3 equals square root of x . Lincoln says that the solution is extraneous. Gemma says the solution is non-extraneous. Is Lincoln correct? Is Gemma correct? Are they both correct? Justify your response by solving this equation, explaining each step with complete sentences.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

did you try to solve? start by squaring each side

OpenStudy (triciaal):

2x - 3 = x x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! then it's non extraneous since it makes the equation true correct?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

how would you define an extraneous solution?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

lol we are basically asking each other the same question

I thought it was a solution you get and when you plug it back in it doesn't work, or makes it "not true"
