trig is like 98% memorization
how do you define the ratio of sides to define a cosine function?
o.O I have no idea what you just said. I am very new to this.
there are 3 basic trig functions; can you name them?
Triangles, Circles, and Equations? This is supposed to be Algebra 1..not Trigonometry.
trigonometry is triangle geometry. and it deals with representing right triangles onto circles.
Okay.
whatever class they are trying to teach this in is regardless. they must have defined for you the 3 basic trig functions to work with.
So the only thing I understand in the question is: Use this triangle to find the value of cos B. But I don't know what 'cos B' is..
cos is a short way to write cosine. cosine is one of the 3 basic trig functions. cosine is defined by a ratio of the legs of a right triangle; namely: the leg next to the angle, and the hypotenuse. |dw:1403813666289:dw| in this general drawing: the leg labeled a is next.to the angle alpha the leg labeled b is over from the angle alpha and the hypotenuse is not a leg perse, but is needed nonetheless
Oh, I see.
\[sin\alpha=\frac{over}{hyp}\] \[cos\alpha=\frac{next.to}{hyp}\] \[tan\alpha=\frac{sin\alpha}{cos\alpha}\]
