Explain, in a step by step procedure, how you would use titration to determine the concentration of a calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) solution.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

1. Use a pH meter to monitor the pH. 2. To a known volume of \(Ca(OH)_2\) add HCl of known concentration (drop by drop) 3. Take data points of volume added and the pH at multiple points. (approx every mL) 4. Keep adding acid until there is large spike in pH. 5. Graph it Now you need to determine the equivalence point, there are various methods, the easiest is "taking the first derivative", i.e. find the slope. The highest point of the slope graph is the equivalence point.
