Solve the system 2x + 3y = 3 and 3x - 2y = 11 by using graph paper or graphing technology. What is the solution to the system?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer choices are (-3, 3) (-1, -7) (1, -4) (3, -1)

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Graph the two lines and look at where they intersect.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

That will be the solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I graph it?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

If all else fails, make x/y charts for each equation. Then graph the points from your chart. Remember, you only need 2 points to graph a line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i find the points?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Like this! Watch!

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

2x+3y = 3 3y = 3 - 2x y = 1 - (2/3)x y = (-2/3)x + 1 There's your slope and your y intercept.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Now plug each of those x values into your equation where you see an x and solve it for y. The answer you get will go into your y column.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First thing you do is find the y-intercept and x-intercept since those lines are in standard form. You do that by Substituting the y value for 0 to find the x-intercept and vice versa for the y-intercept. Once you get those points you just make a straight line intersecting the two of them(Be sure to make the line expand beyond the two points) then do the same for the other equation, the solution is the point where they meet.

wouldnt it be 3/1 not 1/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which would just be 3?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Did I make a boo-boo? Let me check.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

No, it's 1/3 not 3. Look at the math.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

3y = 1 means you divide both sides by 3. y = 1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I see now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I saw the errors of my ways
