|2x-1|-|1/3x+2|=3 with x>1/2

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What's your plan? Do you know that |x| = x when x is positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Search x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes i know but how it do

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What is the nature of (2x-1) when we KNOW that x > 1/2? Is it EVER negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok...i know but it is all threads

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

?? Nonresponsive. 2x-1 > 0 2x > 1 x > 1/2 (1/3)x+2 > 0 (1/3)x > -2 x > -6 So, for x > 1/2, BOTH absolute value expressions are strictly positive. The absolute values can be simply discarded. Solve this: (2x-1)-((1/3)x+2)=3

Ok thank you
