A scatter plot contains a trend line with a slope of -1/10. Does this trend line illustrate a correlation? A. Yes, there is a positive correlation. B. Yes, there is a negative correlation. C. No, there is no correlation. D. There is not enough information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is negative, but I am not sure if I understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rise/run, so -1/10 means go down 1, over 10.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slope= Rise over Run It's A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not a.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh it isn't? My bad.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Going down, not up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah yeah, then it's B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thought so, thank you.

Good job jcpd

@jcpd910 @nickmifsud1223 One more, if you don't mind? A scatter plot contains a trend line that crosses through points (-1, 7) and (1, 3). Does this trend line illustrate a correlation? A. Yes, there is a positive correlation. B. Yes, there is a negative correlation. C. No, there is no correlation. D. There is not enough information. (Again, I know how to graph these two points, but I do not know how to define the correlation?)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe it is a negative correlation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're correct! It's B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's kinda dumb how they say a trend line. It's just a line, so you just need to find the slope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a scatter plot with no correlation, aka a bunch of points all over the place would have no trend line.
