we first want to get rid of the absolute value sign in | 2 -x | = 4 we have two choices. if 2-x is positive , we just drop the | | 2 - x = 4 now solve for x can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i got it right bro thanks

OpenStudy (phi):

you should get x=-2 and then solve the 2nd equation. if 2-x is negative, | 2-x|= -(2-x), so we do -(2-x) = 4 distribute the minus sign -2 + x = 4 add +2 to both sides x= 6 your two answers are x=6 and x= -2
