the lines graphed below are perpendicular. the slope of the red line is -2. what is the slope of the green line.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

perpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes. All that means is " flip " the slope and change the sign. So if one line has a slope of 3/4, then its perpendicular line has a slope of -4/3 (see how I flipped the slope and changed the sign) So what do you think the negative reciprocal for -2 is ? Remember that -2 is the same as -2/1

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

so you have a slope that is -2/1...to find negative reciprocal, flip it and change the sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is -2

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no.....flip it and change the sign -2/1....negative reciprocal is 1/2 (see how I flipped it and changed the sign your perpendicular line will have a slope of 1/2

ohhhhh thanks

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sure thing :)
