Choose what the expressions below best represent within the context of the word problem. The length of a rectangle is 12 inches more than its width. What is the width of the rectangle if the perimeter is 42 inches? x best represents . x + 12 best represents .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

guess i will tell you if it is right or wrong, but i bet you get it on the fist try

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

think about it...the length is 12 more then the width

OpenStudy (anonymous):

satellite in this one idk :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the length is 12 MORE than the width so if the width was 20 the length would be 32 if the width was \(x\) the length would be \(x+12\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a dumb question but the clue is here What is the WIDTH of the rectangle if the perimeter is 42 inches? since you are asked for the width, that is a good thing to call \(x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a bad question because there are many ways to do this not just one

OpenStudy (kanwal32):

see the best way I think is to keep take length x+12
