One number is 8 times another number. The numbers are both positive and have a difference of 70. Find the numbers. Which of the following equations could be used to solve the problem? x - 8x = 70 8x - x = 70 x - 8 = 70

OpenStudy (aric200):

8x-x=70

@soyunafiera are you being lazy?

OpenStudy (aric200):

Or do you not get it?

OpenStudy (aric200):

You keep asking multiple of the same questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

such word problems first need to be translated from English to Math like so: 1. let the two numbers be \(x\) and \(y\) 2. one number is 8 times the other. Hence, \(y = 8x\) 3. both have a difference of 70. So, \(y-x=70\) I use 'y' before because it is the bigger number

plug in the info from step 2 into step 3 and bingo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get it cause i never get math :(

OpenStudy (aric200):

Oh well I just kinda assumed you were being lazy but yes you have to understand it. It is not just going to go away so I am sorry for just giving out the answers.
