From what you know about Higgins, what is the most likely reason he becomes angry when she attempts to return the ring he bought her? He is aghast that she would defy the rules of good manners and decorum. He is ashamed that she would reject a good profit. He is frightened that she is slipping out of his control. He is angered that she would reject his wedding proposal. @indigoeve

@indigoeve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im almost positive that its A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Wolfboy can you please post that thread or website please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well here's and excerpt that may change your mind. LIZA [taking a ring off] This ring isnt the jeweler's: it's the one you bought me in Brighton. I dont want it now. [Higgins dashes the ring violently into the fireplace, and turns on her so threateningly that she crouches over the piano with her hands over her face, and exclaims] Dont you hit me. HIGGINS. Hit you! You infamous creature, how dare you accuse me of such a thing? It is you who have hit me. You have wounded me to the heart.

OpenStudy (wolfboy):

It is Wolfram Alpha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Keep in mind that he did not propose.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That last line is the most essential in this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now im stumped...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay this ties into the symbolism of the ring again. what did it symbolize?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

crap...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have stml its kinda hard for me to remember things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its cool i understand. it represents her feelings for him and their relationship. By leaving the ring behind, but removing it from her life, what would that indicate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that she doesn't love him anymore?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that she doesn't want to be tied to him anymore. Now being released is often a symbol of what? imagine letting a bird fly out of its cage.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

freedom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! imagine her cage was higgins. Why might higgins be angry if she were to fly away?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because she'd be slipping out of his control?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :) great work! Higgins wants Eliza to need him. He becomes so angry because he realizes that she doesn't need him any more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is C. he'd lose control over her?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you betcha

OpenStudy (anonymous):
