But they are easy once you get used to them. So let's rewrite that in a different way that MIGHT make it easier to understand.
You have two functions, p(x) and q(x). What they are asking you to find is p(q(x)).
The thing to remember with these is to work from inside the parenthesis to the outside. That means you will take the function q(x) and fill the whole expression into the function p(x) wherever you see an 'x'. Like this:
