@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

What is the perimeter of a triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats all it gives me :\

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

No. You misunderstood. You need to find the perimeter of the given triangle. I am asking you if you know what perimeter means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know what it is but not totally sure on how to solve it.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I am trying to help you. I ask you questions, and you avoid answering. Do you want help or don't you. For the third time, what is the perimeter of a triangle?

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

@katiezum Define Perimeter

OpenStudy (neer2890):

Perimeter is the sum of all the sides. now , you know all the three sides of triangle ., just add them.

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

I'll give you a hint @katiezum It is not A or B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

That is correct @katiezum , but how do you solve

OpenStudy (neer2890):

good..! @katiezum

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

@katiezum We have to ask you questions like what @mathstudent55 said, so please review this http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Now that someone has finally stated what perimeter is, let's just add the three given sides. P = 2x + 3 + 8x – 4 + x^2 Now we combine like terms to find the perimeter. P = 10x -1 + x^2 Now we rearrange the terms. P = x^2 + 10x - 1 This is choice C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes after @neer2890 gave me an idea on how to solve it, it made sense. :) Thank you all!

OpenStudy (neer2890):

you're welcome and good luck for the next similar type of questions...:)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@katiezum Please don't think that I am trying to give you a hard time. The idea of OS is to help you learn the material you are studying. I can just give you an answer, but that's not very helpful without an explanation. Since I am not in your class with you, I need to find what material you already know. That's why I ask questions. If you told me that you don't know what perimeter means, then I'd start by explaining perimeter. If you told me you know what the perimeter is, then I'd start with the next step. I ask questions to figure out how far you are in solving the problem and how much help you need.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You're welcome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I completly understand I would not want the answer given to me cause then I won't understand how to solve it for future problems. I was just trying to solve it by myself before I started asking :) once again thank you!

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You're welcome.
