Do people who post works here really want both barrels of criticism, or do they want the pat-on-the-head-good-job-Johnny treatment?
We post our work on here to find seek other perspectives, to sort out any grammatical/spelling errors, to get out there.
I post to find out what exactly people think of my work(s), and to better myself through criticism of my drafts, so that the finished product will be even better.
Although of course, not everyone does the same. Some look for "pat-on-the-head-good-job-Johnny treatment", others "this-is-why-this-sucks", and then there's those who look for both.
Why do you ask, though? Just curious, or is there another reason?
For some reason this question made me laugh. Maybe it was the way you asked it. lol
Haha, I agree with @timaashorty, this was worded funny. But to answer your question, I do think quite a few people post poems and stories only in order to get a pat on the head, since I've seen, not so surprisingly, those who like to ignore or cut off all critique. But there are a select few who do look for criticism and they are worth this thread :)
@FrostFelon I ask so if I reply to someone who has replied to this, I'll know who expects the kid gloves. I tried a Socratic reply and got "I don't know. That's just the way I wrote it," as a response. In my book, it isn't poetry unless the author knows exactly why every word was chosen.
When I ask questions or post feedback, I definitely do not want "Kid's Gloves" answers to them post feedback that is unhelpful. I expect the same in return!
