OpenStudy (anonymous):

Destruction of rainforests increases ______, which leads to _______. a. sedimentation; more greenhouse gasses b. global warming; more greenhouse gasses c. air temperature; global warming d. greenhouse gasses; global warming

OpenStudy (abhisar):

What do u think it should be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Destruction of the rain-forests will lead to ... Let's look at which answers just don't make sense. Tree's produce O2, so destroying them could produce greenhouse gasses? Higher air temperature? Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Trees consume CO\(_2\) too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (abhisar):

I think u r correct !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's remove C and D, and think over the first two choices. What is your guess and why @lennox ? @Abhisar is absolutely right, so maybe that could increase greenhouse gasses by not having as much absorbing material! Let's put D back into the mix!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Cosmichaotic correct !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Although I think it's A...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh more greenhouse gasses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still think D but I don't want to be wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The loss of trees, which anchor the soil with their roots, causes widespread erosion throughout the tropics. Only a minority of areas have good soils, which after clearing are quickly washed away by the heavy rains... http://rainforests.mongabay.com/0903.htm

OpenStudy (abhisar):

but how sedimentation can cause green house gas emission ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Clearing increases erosion and sedimentation of waterways and reduces water quality.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

, rotting and burning bush emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Land clearing's contribution to greenhouse gas emissions costs Australia around $1.6 billion annually.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (abhisar):

But they have not mentioned the way how forests are cleared.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do believe it's A, clearing causes sedimentation, and in effect has a lot of cause to be the areas in which greenhouse pollutants are released. That's what I understand so far. I will keep reading.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

but the emission is due to burning or clearing rather than sedimentation directlty.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh boy sorry about that!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Global warming is gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Deforestation leads to sedimentation. Sedimentation is somehow a pollutant! The role of sediment in chemical pollution is tied both to the particle size of sediment, and to the amount of particulate organic carbon associated with the sediment. http://www.fao.org/docrep/w2598e/w2598e05.htm

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Sedimentation is water pollutant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that make any sense? It could be A or D, but my guess is A... It is a chemical and physical pollutant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chapter 2: Pollution by sediments Sediment as a physical pollutant Sediment as a chemical pollutant Key processes: Precipitation and runoff Key concepts Measurement and prediction of sediment loss Recommendations http://www.fao.org/docrep/w2598e/w2598e05.htm

OpenStudy (abhisar):

but not all pollutant lead to Global warming nor all pollutants are green house gases.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

To best of my belief D should be the correct option.
