Given the functions a(x) = 4x2 + 2x - 3 and b(x) = x - 1, identify the oblique asymptote of the function a of x over the function b of x. y = 4x + 6 y = 4x - 2 y = 0 No oblique asymptote

@IMStuck please help?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

A slant (oblique) asymptote occurs when the polynomial in the numerator is a higher degree than the polynomial in the denominator. To find the slant asymptote you must divide the numerator by the denominator using either long division or synthetic division.

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

so wait what do i do ?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

do you know how to do synthetic division?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

uhhh sort of

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Do you know long division of polynomials better, or no? Cuz synthetic is way easier, but not if you don't know it. Which are you more comfy with?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

what do i divide?

OpenStudy (imstuck):

For long division it will look like this:|dw:1404709378686:dw|
