Simplify (5x2 + 3x + 4) + (2x2 - 6x + 3). Medals!

OpenStudy (mrnood):

\[(5x ^{2}+3x+4)+(2x ^{2}-6x+3)\] The brackets are not required in this case. Remove the brackets and then group together each of the terms with x^2, x and constants. Be careful of the signs

OpenStudy (triciaal):

the brackets are necessary to show 2 groups of entries that are being added. the positive one distributed to the second group did not change the sign of any of the entries in the parenthesis + (2x2 - 6x + 3)= +1(+2 x^2) +1(-6 x) +1(+3)= 2 x^2 -6 x + 3 if the original had a - to be distributed then -(-6 x) would become +6 x this would affected the computation when grouping like terms and therefore the brackets are necessary

OpenStudy (mrnood):

as I said - not required IN THIS CASE
