Confused about this problem of multiplying binomials...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is Find the product of (x - 3^)2. x^2 + 6x + 9 x^2 - 9 x^2 - 6x + 9 x^2 + 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have simplified it down to x^2-3x-3x+9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I don't know about when combining like terms if I carry that negative with the three and it's 6, or if I don't and they cancel out

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

x^2-3x-3x+9 so far so good...

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

Are you sure the parenthesis were there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-6x+9 or x^2+9?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

think of it like this : You have "x^2" apples, and you gave me 3x apples, how many apples you would be having ?

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

x^2-6x+9 is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought so, since you should carry the signs right?

OpenStudy (broskishelleh):

Yes...
