A camera which does not have a lens, but uses a tiny hole to focus the image. Pinhole cameras (with no film) are often used today to observe solar eclipses which cannot safely be observed directly. In the past, however they really were used for photograph. The quantum effect which focuses light passing through a tiny hole can be seen by making a tiny hole in black construction paper and projecting bright scenes through it onto blank paper which can be moved nearer and farther from the pinhole to focus the image (which will be upside down).
