Calculus Question: Can someone explain the difference between integration and differentiation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The main difference between the two is that differentaiation is about derivatives and integration is based on calculating definite and indefinite integrals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

integrals can be used to calculate anti-derivatives and differentiation can be used to calculate derivaties

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Taking the derivative of something, and integrating something. What is the difference though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so the derivative means calculating the slope of a curve and intergration basically means calculating the area under a curve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are reverse processes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhh!!! That's exactly what I was looking for! One is slope based, the other is area based. Very verrrrry cool!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I love math so much... lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea it is. Calculus is really fun. Integrals especially
