OpenStudy (texaschic101):

4 - (x + 2) < -3(x + 4) --- distribute through the parenthesis 4 - x - 2 < -3x - 12 -- combine like terms 2 - x < -3x - 12 -- add 3x to both sides 2 - x + 3x < -12 -- subtract 2 from both sides -x + 3x < -12 - 2 -- combine like terms 2x < - 14 -- divide both sides by 2 x < - 7 check.. 4 - (x + 2) < -3(x + 4) 4 - (-8 + 2) < -3(-8 + 4) 4 - (-6) < -3(-4) 4 + 6 < 12 10 < 12 (correct) x < -7 (this is just saying that any number LESS THEN -7 is your solution)
