Which argument supports the idea that viruses are alive?
A.Viruses have a cell membrane. B.Viruses contain unique genetic information.. C.Viruses replicate in a host. D.Viruses do not produce proteins.
Viruses replicate.
Wait
C?
B>
oh.
Or C
Let me check my book.
ok thanks :-)
B would be the correct answer, but viruses are not alive. They only have genetic information.
Dang, it seems like both B and C are correct... I would say C as the best bet because one of the characteristics of living things is that the reproduce (replicate).
The virus itself doesn't replicate. It gets into host cell and commands it to replicate with virus inside. Killing the cell and releasing more virus.
Yeah, but that is the act of producing more if itself, which is essentially the basis of replication.
Actually @Gabebro13 is correct ! Viruses don't replicate. They lack the machinery for it. Host cells replicate them. So the correct option is B
The last part of C says that It replicates in a host and this point was used to support the idea that viruses are not living organisms because they cannot reproduce on their own. C is correct but its a bit contradicting.
Ill check what the answer is in a bit.
